There are easy decisions and difficult decisions.

Chocolate bar vs Sushi – easy decision.

White chocolate bar vs dark chocolate bar vs Chilli chocolate bar vs hazelnut chocolate bar.

Difficult decision. I hate making difficult decisions.

This is where procrastination comes in. Maybe I’ll just forego the chocolate bar today. I will go away and think about it and maybe come back before I head for the checkout. Now the problem multiplies itself as I need to make choices for every item on my list. Take vinegar for example. Balsamic vinegar is very much the fashion. But what about white wine vinegar, malt vinegar, plain white vinegar, brown vinegar. Isn’t Cider vinegar supposed to be better for you?

You have probably guessed that it takes me a long time to get that weekly shop done.

But creativity? Writing prompts? Today’s tweets are more of a choice between those different types of sushi, with unknown ingredients at the center. Did I mention that I’m not keen on Sushi? How to decide when you don’t even know what’s in there?

Procrastination is my friend, it puts off that moment when it’s going to be too late to turn back. The only way to get rid of it is to try each option. I try on a tweet about study. It doesn’t suit me. I try another one about past selves. I just don’t want to go there, I prefer my current self! Home? If my home is a person it is me, what else can I say? And I do understand that most writers think writing is hard. Maybe it’s because I’m not a writer that it seems harder to me. So it’s supposed to be hard then?

Maybe I’m just not a very tweet person.

Maybe Social Media just doesn’t inspire me very much.

If I’ve learnt anything at all in my life, it is that sometimes, you just need to get it done and move on. You don’t have to like it.  It doesn’t have to be a political manifesto or a deep and meaningful memoir.

So there you have it. Creative Procrastination…

  1. Actually, it’s quite challenging – to pick up a tweet and write a post around it. I sometimes feel that it inhibits the kind of creativity that you look for in blogging – open, without constraints…that kind of creativity. And yet, if you find yourself drawing a blank…it can be very helpful too. It’s both ways – and I guess it depends on what you are looking for on a certain day.

  2. Yes, it was very challenging for me anyway, Anand! I had quite a few false starts & in the end I just needed to get past it, but anyway I am going to continue with the course & see what develops…Thanks for reading!
